The Varaha Lakshmi Narasimha Temple at Simhachalam is one of the most important religious sites around Visakhapatnam. Set on a wooded hill north of the city, it draws pilgrims for its form of Vishnu as Varaha Narasimha and for the heavy stone architecture that gives the complex a serious, old Andhra presence.
For travellers, Simhachalam works best as a morning excursion: go early, allow time for queues, and dress conservatively. The approach up the hill is part of the experience, with city heat giving way to shade, temple stalls, and a more devotional rhythm than you find along the beach road.
