Nuranang Falls

A powerful waterfall below Tawang, dropping through forested cliffs beside the road to Jang.

Nuranang Falls is the most worthwhile natural stop on the road south of Tawang. The water drops in a broad white sheet through a steep, forested gorge near Jang, making a dramatic change from the monasteries, high passes, and military roads that dominate much of western Arunachal Pradesh.

The falls are easy to work into a Tawang itinerary if you have a vehicle, but they still feel properly Himalayan: mist, cold spray, prayer flags, and mountain weather that can shift without warning. Go early if you want quiet, and do not underestimate the chill even when the plains of Assam are hot.
