Rashtrapati Bhavan is the official residence of the President of India, designed by Edwin Lutyens and completed in 1929 as the Viceroy's House — the centrepiece of New Delhi's new imperial capital. The 340-room palace blends classical British architecture with Mughal and Indian elements, including a great copper dome inspired by the Sanchi Stupa. The surrounding Mughal Gardens (now called Amrit Udyan) are among the finest formal gardens in South Asia.
The gardens open to the public for several weeks each spring (usually February–March) when flowers are in bloom — entry is free but heavily ticketed. The ceremonial Forecourt is visible from Rajpath and can be approached on foot. The Change of Guard ceremony takes place on Saturday mornings and is open to the public without prior booking.
