Mehrauli Archaeological Park

200-acre forested zone in South Delhi containing over 100 medieval monuments and ruins

Mehrauli Archaeological Park is a 200-acre forested zone containing over 100 medieval monuments from the 10th to 18th centuries — tombs, mosques, stepwells, gateways, and palaces from the Delhi Sultanate and Mughal periods scattered through woodland. It is one of the densest concentrations of medieval Islamic architecture in the world, and most of it goes largely unvisited.

Entry to the park is free and it can be explored independently on foot. Key monuments include the Tomb of Balban, Rajon ki Baoli, the Jamali Kamali Mosque, and the Tomb of Adham Khan. The park adjoins the Qutb Minar complex at its northern end. A cycle or walking tour of the full park takes three to four hours and rewards those with an interest in Delhi's layered history.
