The Wednesday flea market on the south end of Anjuna Beach is the biggest market on the Goa coast. From around nine in the morning until sunset, the field behind the beach fills with hundreds of stalls selling textiles, jewellery, leather, spices, second-hand books, hippie clothes, lassi and chai.
Go early. By eleven the sun is brutal, the crowds are dense and the prices have hardened. Bargain hard — the marked prices are typically two or three times what traders expect to receive. Cash only; the Wednesday market is a five-decade-old institution that has barely noticed the digital age.
