Pavagadh Hill

Pavagadh Hill rises abruptly above Champaner, red-brown and green depending on the season. Fort walls, gates, shrines, and viewpoints mark the climb, while pilgrims stream upward toward Kalika Mata Temple near the summit.

You can walk sections of the route or use the ropeway for much of the ascent. Either way, the hill changes the visit from archaeology into something more alive and physical.

A story
Pavagadh is an old volcanic hill, and its sudden rise above the plains is one reason it became both a fortress and a place of pilgrimage.
