Mashroo Weaving Workshops

Less famous than Patola but more affordable, Mashroo is a satin-weave fabric of silk warp and cotton weft, traditionally striped, made by a few weavers in the old town. The fabric was historically used for clothing by Muslims who avoided pure silk on religious grounds — silk on the outside, cotton against the skin. A small handful of family workshops still produce it on pit looms.

Mashroo cushion covers, jackets and bolt fabric are sold for a fraction of Patola prices (a metre runs about ₹500 to ₹1,500) and make for a more realistic souvenir. Ask in the Patolawala area and someone will point you towards a weaver.
