The Somnath Museum, housed near the temple complex at Prabhas Patan, holds the most important physical evidence of the temple's medieval history: sculptural fragments recovered from the ruins of the earlier structures, including pieces from the temple destroyed by Mahmud of Ghazni in 1026 and its successors. The carvings are exceptional — the quality of the medieval Somnath temple was clearly extraordinary, and even fragments convey a sense of its original scale.
The museum also holds inscriptions, coins, and archaeological material from the surrounding Prabhas Patan area. It is a small but genuinely informative collection, and a useful complement to the rebuilt temple — it puts the current structure in historical context and makes clear how much was lost in the medieval destructions.
