Hatkeshwar Mahadev Temple is Vadnagar's main Shiva shrine and an important temple for the Nagar Brahmin community. The present building is usually dated to the later medieval period, but its position and ritual importance make it one of the cultural anchors of the old town.
Look closely at the exterior rather than rushing straight inside. The temple walls carry figures from the Ramayana and Mahabharata, along with musicians, dancers, apsaras, and divine images. It is a lived-in shrine, so dress and behave as you would at any active temple.
