Pancham Mehta ni Vav

Seven-storey stepwell near Amarthol Gate, built for water, shade, and ritual.

Pancham Mehta ni Vav, also called Pashchim Mehta ni Vav, is one of Vadnagar's most interesting water structures. It lies near Amarthol Gate and descends in a long, narrow sequence of landings and pillared divisions toward the well shaft.

Compared with Gujarat's famous showpiece stepwells, this one is quieter and more local, but it is worth seeking out. The repeated columns, deepening shade, and careful geometry show how a practical water source could also become architecture.
