Kangra Museum

The Kangra Museum, run by the Himachal Pradesh State Museum, holds one of the best collections of Kangra miniature paintings outside the national museums in Delhi. The Kangra school of painting flourished in the eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries under the patronage of the Katoch rulers, producing delicate, luminous images of Krishna legends, Ragamala series, and Pahari court life.

The collection also covers the archaeology of the Kangra Valley, with finds from the region's long settled history going back to the Indus Valley period, and documents relating to the Katoch dynasty — the family that ruled Kangra for over 500 years and claims to be one of the oldest surviving royal families in the world.
