The best time to visit Kangra is from October to June. The post-monsoon months of October and November offer clear skies and fresh air after the rains have washed the valley, with the Dhauladhar peaks crisply visible from the town. March to June is warm and pleasant, with the apple and cherry trees in bloom in spring.
The monsoon arrives in late June or early July and lasts until September. This period brings heavy rainfall, frequent landslides, and disruption to mountain roads. The valley is lush and green but travel becomes difficult and the fort ruins become slippery. Winter (December to February) is cold, with occasional snowfall in the upper valley, but the weather is generally stable and the crowds thin out considerably. Kangra town itself rarely sees snow, but the Dhauladhar peaks are white throughout winter and the views are exceptional in clear weather.
