Hikkim Post Office

Hikkim is a tiny village near Langza at 4,440 metres, and its sole claim to fame is entirely sufficient: it contains the world's highest post office, a fact that draws a modest but steady stream of travellers who want to send postcards from the top of the world. The post office is a small stone building that looks exactly like a post office should look when it is the only building for some distance in any direction.

The postmaster operates a full postal service — you can send letters and postcards to any address, and the official Hikkim postmark is a prized souvenir for philatelists. The short walk from Langza to Hikkim passes through boulder-strewn high-altitude meadow with views toward the snow peaks of the Spiti-Kinnaur watershed. The nearby village of Komic, at a similar altitude, has a small monastery and the distinction of being one of the highest mechanically accessible villages in the world.
