Bhairav Nath Temple

Two and a half kilometres beyond the main shrine, on a higher peak at 1,950 metres, Bhairav Nath is the small temple that traditionally completes the pilgrimage. The climb adds about three more hours each way, with steep sections and thin mountain air.

A cable car (operational since 2024) now runs between the main shrine and Bhairav Nath, cutting the journey to a few minutes. Even with the cable car, many pilgrims walk at least one direction. The view from the temple, over the green Trikuta valley and the snow-capped Pir Panjal, is the best on the whole route.

A story
Local belief holds that the goddess beheaded the tantric Bhairav Nath here when he refused to stop pursuing her. As he died he asked her forgiveness, and she granted that no yatra would be considered complete until pilgrims had also visited his shrine — making the man who chased her a permanent part of her cult.
