The Bhutanatha group of temples sits on the eastern edge of Agastya Lake, with sandstone shrines stepping down toward the water. The setting is almost impossibly photogenic: lake in front, cliffs behind, and the old town wrapped around both.
The temples were built and added to over several centuries, so look for the mix of Chalukya and later details rather than treating the complex as one single-period monument. Sunset is the obvious time to come, but early morning is quieter.
