Belur is in Hassan district, about 35 km from Hassan and roughly 220 km from Bangalore by road. Most travellers come by car or bus from Hassan, Bangalore, Chikmagalur, or Sravanabelagola.
Hassan is the nearest useful railway hub. From there, buses and taxis run to Belur and onward to Halebidu. A hired car makes the Belur-Halebidu-Sravanabelagola circuit much easier than trying to line up buses.
