Kappe Chennigaraya Temple

Smaller Hoysala shrine inside the Belur temple complex, linked to Queen Shantala Devi.

Kappe Chennigaraya Temple sits within the Chennakeshava complex and is easy to miss if you treat Belur as a single monument. It is traditionally associated with Queen Shantala Devi and belongs to the same early 12th-century burst of Hoysala building as the main shrine.

Spend a few minutes here after the main temple, partly to reset your eye. The scale is smaller, but the carvings and proportions show how much artistry was packed into the subsidiary shrines of a major temple complex.
