Namdroling Monastery is the reason most travellers know Bylakuppe. The main temple, popularly called the Golden Temple, holds three large gilded statues and is visually striking even if you know little about Tibetan Buddhism.
It is also a living monastery, not just a visitor attraction. Monks and nuns study, pray, and move through the campus while day-trippers take photographs. Go slowly, keep your voice down in prayer halls, and spend time with the prayer wheels and surrounding courtyards rather than treating it as a single-room stop.
