Monolith Bull

Large stone Nandi at the eastern end of Hampi Bazaar, facing Virupaksha Temple

The Monolith Bull is Hampi's big stone Nandi, set at the far end of the old bazaar axis from Virupaksha Temple. It is not as intricate as the royal enclosure monuments, but its placement makes the ruined market street suddenly legible: temple, bazaar, sacred animal, and boulder hills all aligned.

It is an easy stop while walking between Hampi Bazaar and the Achyutaraya Temple area. Pause here rather than hurrying past; the bull's worn mass and simple pavilion have the quiet authority of a landmark that has watched the route for centuries.
