The main sports venue in Hubli, Nehru Stadium hosts football matches in the I-League and local competitions, as well as occasional cricket fixtures. If you happen to be in the city on a match day, it is worth checking whether there is a game on — football in particular draws a partisan local crowd and the atmosphere in a smaller Indian stadium is often more immediate than at the larger venues.
The stadium is a short distance from the city centre and the railway station. It is not worth a detour if there is nothing scheduled, but it gives a flavour of sporting life in a Tier-2 Indian city.
