Mangalavanam Bird Sanctuary is a pocket of mangrove forest in central Kochi, valued for its birdlife and rare green space in a dense part of the city. Migratory birds use the sanctuary as a resting and feeding place, and the vegetation gives a quick glimpse of the wetland habitats that once covered more of the coast.
It is not a large reserve, so visit with modest expectations: a short nature stop, best in the morning, rather than a full-day excursion.
