Santa Cruz Cathedral Basilica is one of Fort Kochi's major colonial-era churches, with origins in the Portuguese settlement of the early 1500s. The present building was altered under later European rule and is now the main Latin Catholic cathedral in Kerala.
The draw is both historical and visual: painted interiors, decorative woodwork, and the sense of a church layered by Portuguese, Dutch, British, and local Catholic history. It pairs naturally with nearby St Francis Church and the Indo-Portuguese Museum.
