Vizhinjam Lighthouse

Striped lighthouse above Kovalam’s Lighthouse Beach, with open coastal views from the top.

Vizhinjam Lighthouse is the landmark that gives Kovalam's Lighthouse Beach its name: a red-and-white tower rising behind the sand at the southern end of the bay. From below it is already photogenic, but the reason to go is the climb, which opens a clean view over the Arabian Sea, the curve of the beach, and the fishing coast beyond.

It is a short, practical sight rather than a long attraction. Go early or late for softer light and less heat, then fold it into a beach walk or a seafood lunch nearby. In Kovalam, where the beach scene can feel very commercial, the lighthouse gives the shore a real point of orientation.
