East Fort is the old gateway area around Padmanabhaswamy Temple, where Thiruvananthapuram's royal, religious, and commercial histories meet. The surviving fort gate, temple approaches, palace buildings, and busy streets make it feel more like a historic district than a single monument.
Most visitors pass through East Fort on the way to the temple, but it deserves a slower look. Come early, when shops are opening and pilgrims are moving through the lanes, and use it as the starting point for the city's older core rather than just a traffic landmark.
