Wayanad has no train service — the nearest stations are Kozhikode (Calicut) and Mysore. From Kozhikode, frequent KSRTC buses and private buses climb the Thamarassery ghat road to Kalpetta; the journey takes about 2.5 hours. From Mysore, buses run through the Sulthan Bathery end of the district.
The nearest airports are Calicut International Airport (about 90km from Kalpetta) and Mysore Airport (about 100km). Taxis from both airports are available. Driving yourself gives the most flexibility within the district; the roads are generally good though the ghat sections require care.
