October to May is the best time to visit Wayanad. The post-monsoon months (October-December) are particularly beautiful: the landscape is vividly green, the air is clear, and the waterfalls are still running. January and February are cooler and very pleasant for trekking. March-May is warmer but manageable.
June through September is monsoon season. The roads are intact but the trails to Chembra and the Edakkal Caves can be muddy and treacherous. The wildlife sanctuaries close during the monsoon. However, if you enjoy dramatic landscapes in the rain, Wayanad in the monsoon is extraordinary — the mist in the coffee estates, the waterfalls at their peak, and the vivid green are worth experiencing.
