Lower Lake

Smaller sister lake to Bhopal's Upper Lake, edged by old-city viewpoints and waterside paths

Lower Lake, or Chhota Talaab, sits immediately below Bhopal's old city and forms the quieter half of the Bhoj Wetland pair with Upper Lake. It is not as expansive as its neighbour, but it gives the city a handsome foreground: water, minarets, temple spires and the crowded slopes of old Bhopal all folding into one view.

Come here as part of a slow walk through the old-city side of Bhopal rather than as a standalone excursion. The lake is best in the softer light of morning or late afternoon, when the shore is busy with walkers and the reflections make the jumble of buildings above the water look more theatrical.
