Shaurya Smarak is Bhopal's modern war memorial, designed as a landscaped complex of sculptures, open spaces and symbolic installations honouring Indian soldiers. It is more contemplative than bombastic, and the layout encourages visitors to move through the memorial rather than simply stand in front of it.
The site adds a contemporary civic note to a city better known for lakes, mosques and museums. Visit near evening if possible, when the heat drops and the lighting gives the memorial more atmosphere. It pairs well with other stops in New Bhopal and the lakefront.
