Pitambara Peeth is one of the most important Tantric temples in India, dedicated to the goddess Bagalamukhi (also known as Pitambara Devi), one of the ten Mahavidyas — the forms of the divine feminine in the Tantric tradition. The temple draws a steady stream of pilgrims from across India, particularly those seeking blessings in legal disputes, competitive examinations, and matters requiring resolution of conflict, for which Bagalamukhi is specifically invoked.
The temple compound includes several shrines, including one to Dhumavati, another of the Mahavidyas. The atmosphere is devotional and intense; early morning and evening puja times are the most atmospheric. Non-Hindus are generally welcome to visit respectfully, though the inner sanctum of some shrines may be restricted. Dress conservatively, remove shoes at the entrance, and be prepared for crowds on auspicious dates in the Hindu calendar.
