Vivekananda Sarovar — also known as Boodhatalaab, the 'old tank' — is a large urban lake near the Purani Basti quarter. The replica of the Vivekananda Rock Memorial stands on an island in the middle, reached by a small bridge, and gives the lake a focal point that makes it more than just a municipal water body. The lakefront is popular with evening walkers and families, and the path around the perimeter is well maintained. It's an easy, pleasant hour to walk the circuit, particularly around sunset. Small food stalls set up along the eastern bank in the evenings.

A story
The original Vivekananda Rock Memorial in Kanyakumari was built in 1970 on the spot where Swami Vivekananda is said to have meditated before his journey to America and the 1893 Parliament of the World's Religions. The Raipur replica sits on a small island in the lake — a curious piece of architectural devotion that nonetheless makes for a striking sight at dusk when the structure is illuminated against the water.
