Dhule Fort

Maratha-era fort overlooking Dhule, site of the district's founding garrison

The ruins of Dhule Fort stand on a rise overlooking the city and serve as the most visible reminder of the town's pre-colonial history. The fort was a Maratha garrison post and later passed through the control of the Nizams before coming under British administration in 1818 when the Peshwa's power collapsed. Most of the original structures have deteriorated, but the remaining walls and a few inner chambers give a sense of the fort's layout.

The site is not formally managed as a tourist attraction — there are no guides, no entrance fees, and minimal signage. Locals climb the hill in the early mornings for exercise and the views over the city and the surrounding plateau. The walk up takes about 20 minutes. It's worth combining with a visit to the Sakri Road market area below.
