Tapi River Ghats

River ghats on the Tapi, used for bathing, cremations, and religious festivals

The Tapi (also called Tapti) river runs along the northern edge of Dhule district, and the ghats at Sarangkheda — about 50km from the city — are the most significant religious bathing sites in the area. Within Dhule itself, the river banks serve the community for daily rituals and local festivals, particularly during the month of Margashirsha when pilgrims come from across the district.

The ghats are most active at dawn and at festival times. The Margashirsha Pournima fair draws large crowds annually. The stretch of river north of the city also attracts migratory birds during winter months, including egrets, kingfishers, and occasionally painted storks. A walk along the river bank in the early morning is one of the quieter pleasures available in Dhule.
