Murud Beach

Murud Beach is the closest beach to Dapoli town, about 10 km away on the coast. It is a long, quiet stretch of sand backed by casuarina trees, with the fishing village of Murud at its northern end. The beach faces west and gives good sunset views across the Arabian Sea.

The village of Murud has a small fishing harbour where you can watch the catch being brought in during the early morning. The beach itself gets some visitors from Pune and Mumbai on weekends but remains uncrowded by the standards of more popular coastal destinations. Swimming is possible in the calmer months (October to May); during the monsoon the sea is rough and the green hills above the coast become dramatically lush.

There is a small fort, Suvarnadurg, visible offshore — it sits on an island in the bay and can be reached by local boat from the fishing harbour.
