Panhalekaji Caves

A group of rock-cut Buddhist caves in the Konkan countryside near Dapoli.

The Panhalekaji Caves are a rock-cut cave group tucked into the Konkan landscape inland from Dapoli. Carved over several phases, the caves preserve traces of Buddhist, later Hindu, and regional religious use, with pillars, cells, and sculptural details that reward close looking.

They are not as polished or crowded as Maharashtra's famous cave complexes, which is part of their appeal. Reaching them usually means a rural drive from the coast, so they work best for travellers who want to pair Dapoli's beaches with a quieter archaeological excursion.
