Uttareshwar Temple

The Uttareshwar Mahadev temple sits near the north end of the village and is dedicated to Shiva. It is older-feeling than the more visited Ganesh temple — the stonework is plain, the courtyard is shaded by a large peepal tree, and most days you will have the place to yourself. Monkeys hang around the trees and along the compound wall.

The temple is on the route between the village centre and the creek end of the beach, which makes it an easy detour on a walk. It is busiest during Mahashivratri in February or March, when villagers gather here through the night.
