Versova is Andheri's own beach and fishing village, less famous than Juhu but more atmospheric for its working koliwada (fishing community). The village at the northern end of the beach is one of Mumbai's largest surviving fishing settlements, and the sight of the fleet returning with the morning catch is a striking spectacle. The beach itself is long and open, with fewer crowds than Juhu.
Versova received international attention when a local resident organised a massive cleanup that removed tonnes of plastic waste from the beach — inspiring similar initiatives across India. The reclaimed sands now attract more visitors. The village has a handful of seafood shacks serving the day's catch fried simply. The metro connection from Versova station makes the beach easily accessible from central Mumbai.
