A mosque and dargah (Islamic shrine) built on a tiny islet in the Arabian Sea, connected to the Mumbai shore by a narrow causeway that floods at high tide. The shrine honours Syed Peer Haji Ali Shah Bukhari, a wealthy 15th-century Muslim merchant who, according to legend, died on his pilgrimage to Mecca and whose casket floated back to this spot. The white domed structure is one of the most recognisable landmarks on the Mumbai waterfront. The causeway is impassable during high tide — check the timing before visiting.
