Raigad Ropeway

Cable car from the base to the upper fort

The Raigad ropeway runs from a base station near Pachad village up to a platform just below the main plateau, saving roughly 1,400 steps each way. The ride takes about four minutes and the view from the cabin — out across the cliffs of the fort — is part of the attraction. The cable car has been in service since 1996 and is run by the Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation.

Tickets are sold at the base; queues can be long on weekends and during school holidays. For anyone wanting to do justice to the fort itself, the ropeway makes sense even for fit walkers — it frees a few hours for exploring on top instead of grinding up the steps.
