The Loktak Folklore Museum, also called the Thanga Folklore Museum, sits on Thanga Island in the eastern part of Loktak Lake — accessed by causeway from the lakeshore road north of Moirang. The museum is a small, locally run institution presenting the folk culture of the Meitei communities that live on the lake: fishing gear, looms, household tools, costumes, musical instruments and reconstructions of phumdi-dwelling life.
It is not a polished museum, but it is the only place that systematically explains the everyday culture of the lake people, and it complements a boat trip onto the water itself. Combine with a visit to the Sendra viewpoint just north for the wide panorama of the phumdis below.
