Naraj is about 12 kilometres north of Cuttack and roughly 25 kilometres from Bhubaneswar. Regular buses and shared autos connect it to Cuttack's main bus stand, and the journey takes 20 to 30 minutes. From Bhubaneswar, buses and taxis run via Cuttack or directly via the National Highway.
Auto-rickshaws and cycle-rickshaws are available from Cuttack for the short run to the barrage. During certain seasons, small boats operate on the river for those who want to approach by water, though road transport is faster and more reliable.
