Naraj is a peaceful half-day excursion from Cuttack, best at dawn or dusk when the river light is most dramatic. The barrage and the bifurcation point of the Mahanadi are the main draws. The area is also worth visiting during the monsoon when the river is in full flood and the volume of water passing through the barrage gates becomes genuinely spectacular.
