Sri Ganganagar has active grain and fruit wholesale markets (mandis) that reflect the city's role as an agricultural hub. The mandis are not tourist attractions in any conventional sense, but they offer an unfiltered view of a working Indian trading economy: sacks of wheat and cotton, enormous piles of kinnow oranges (Ganganagar is one of India's leading producers), and the loud, rapid negotiation of agricultural trade.
The kinnow — a mandarin-pomelo hybrid bred for the Punjab-Rajasthan climate — is the crop most associated with the region, and from December to February the orchards and markets are full of them. The quality here is considered better and the prices lower than anywhere further from the source. Worth picking up a bag if you're passing through in season.
