Rameswaram, three to four hours east, is one of the four Hindu char dham pilgrimage sites — the great Ramanathaswamy Temple, the long sand spit toward Sri Lanka, and the ghost town of Dhanushkodi. Kanyakumari, six hours south at the very tip of India, is where the three seas meet; you can also reach Kodaikanal in the hills (3-4 hours) for a complete change of climate.
