Pazhamudhircholai

Forest Murugan temple on a sacred hill

Pazhamudhircholai — "grove of ripe fruits" — sits above Alagar Kovil at the top of the same hill, and is the sixth and last of the six battle camps of Murugan. The setting is gentler than the other Murugan temples: a wooded ridge with mango and jackfruit trees, a small stream and a few shady halls.

It is a 4 km drive up from Alagar Kovil along a winding road, or a 7 km forest path on foot for those who want to walk. The Noopura Gangai spring on the hillside is held to be sacred and pilgrims bathe in it before visiting the shrine.
