Srirangam is an island in the Cauvery River, connected to the mainland city of Tiruchirappalli (Trichy) by bridges. From Trichy city centre, it is a short auto-rickshaw or city bus ride of about 10 minutes. The Srirangam bus stand on the island is directly outside the temple's southern gopuram.
Trichy itself is well connected: Tiruchirappalli International Airport has domestic flights from Chennai, Mumbai, and Bangalore, plus some international routes. Trichy is also on the main Chennai–Madurai rail line with frequent express trains from Chennai (about 5 hours) and Madurai (about 2.5 hours). From the Trichy railway station or central bus stand, auto-rickshaws to Srirangam take 10–15 minutes.
