Pauri is connected by road to Rishikesh, which is the main transport hub for this part of Garhwal. The drive from Rishikesh takes around five hours on winding mountain roads — buses run regularly but are slow; a hired jeep or taxi is more comfortable. Karanprayag on the Alaknanda is another approach, about three hours away by road.
The nearest railhead is Kotdwar (Kotdwara), about 100 km away, with connections to Delhi and other plains cities. Buses run from Kotdwar to Pauri. Alternatively, Rishikesh and Haridwar have better rail and road connections and are the standard gateways for this part of the Garhwal hills. The nearest airport is Jolly Grant Airport in Dehradun, which has flights to Delhi; from there it is around four to five hours by road to Pauri.
