Shankarpur, 14 km east of Digha along the coast road, is a quieter alternative to the main resort beach. The beach here is wider and less developed, backed by casuarina trees that provide shade through the day. A fishing harbour makes Shankarpur feel more like a working village than a resort — the boats come and go, the nets dry on the beach, and the daily catch is sold directly at the landing.
Shankarpur is developing slowly as a secondary resort and now has some guesthouses and simple restaurants, but it remains significantly less crowded than Digha even on weekends. If you have your own transport, the coast road between Digha and Shankarpur is a pleasant drive through fishing villages. The beach here is good for swimming in calm weather — check with locals about conditions before going in.
