Getting There

The nearest airport is Bagdogra (IXB), about 80 km from Kalimpong. From the airport, shared jeeps and taxis run to Kalimpong; the road journey takes 2.5 to 3 hours depending on traffic at Siliguri. The nearest railway station is New Jalpaiguri (NJP) in Siliguri, well connected to Kolkata, Delhi, and other major cities. From NJP, shared jeeps to Kalimpong depart from the taxi stand outside the station and take about 3 hours.

The Sikkim Nationalised Transport (SNT) and private operators run buses between Kalimpong and Siliguri, Darjeeling, and Gangtok in Sikkim. Shared jeeps are generally faster and more flexible than buses. The roads through the hills are good by local standards but prone to landslides during and after the monsoon (June–September), which can close routes for days. If you are coming between October and May, conditions are much more reliable.

The drive from Darjeeling to Kalimpong via Ghum takes about 2.5 hours; alternatively, the route down through Teesta Bazaar and up the other side is more scenic but also longer. There is no rail connection to Kalimpong itself.
