Deolo Hill

Deolo Hill rises to the north of Kalimpong town and is the most accessible high point in the area. At 1,704 metres it stands above the main ridge of Kalimpong and offers views over the Teesta valley, down towards Siliguri and the plains, and — in good weather — north to the Sikkim Himalaya with Kanchenjunga dominant in the centre.

There is a park at the summit with a small reservoir, a children's play area, and picnic spots. The walk up from town takes about an hour on forest paths; alternatively, jeeps can drive up on the road. Most people visit early morning, when the mountain views are clearest before the haze builds. The hill is worth combining with a visit to the Dr. Graham's Homes school campus, which lies on the slopes below — the school's Gothic chapel and broad grounds are open to casual visitors and give a sense of the hill station's colonial period.

A story
Deolo Hill at 1,704 metres is higher than Kalimpong town itself, and on clear mornings between October and February the panorama includes not just Kanchenjunga but also other Himalayan peaks stretching east towards Bhutan. The hill has a small park at the summit and is a popular morning walk for locals, who begin climbing before dawn to catch the light on the mountains.
