Boimela Prangon is the fairground associated with the annual Kolkata Book Fair, usually held from late January into early February. The fair is one of the city's major cultural events, drawing huge crowds for publishers' stalls, readings, talks, and the general pleasure of browsing books in a city that takes literature seriously.
Outside fair time, there is little reason to make a special trip here. During the book fair, it is one of Kolkata's most distinctive seasonal experiences.
